Brazil Soybeans 7.3% Planted, Production 180.0 Million Tons

The 2026/27 Brazil soybean production was left unchanged this week at 180.0 million tons with a neutral bias.
The weather in Brazil has been more cooperative for soybean planting than what had been predicted several months ago. Rainfall in southern Brazil has been heavy, which was predicted, but the rainfall in central Brazil has been better than expected, at least up until now. Brazilian metrologists believe that a strong El Nino does not mean an absence of rain in central Brazil, rather it could impact the distribution of rain during spring and summer especially in Mato Grosso and Goias. Above normal temperatures throughout the growing season are expected in central Brazil.
In fact, temperatures in central Brazil were very hot last week with many locations above 100°F with the highest reaching 114°F. High temperatures and strong sunlight can dry out the soil very quickly, so farmers are being warned to only plant soybeans when there is adequate soil moisture for germination and emergence, and the forecast is calling for additional rainfall.
Soybean planting in Brazil was 7.3% as of late last week compared to 9.0% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 3.9% for the week, and it was the first time this season that planting was behind last year. Parana leads the way at 28% planted with Mato Grosso 10.2% planted. Thus far, the weather has been generally cooperative and planting has progressed normally.
Brazil soybean estimates vary widely - Early estimates of Brazil's 2026/27 soybean production vary widely from the low 170's million tons to the mid 180's million tons. Patria AgroNegocios is on the low end at 173.7 million tons, while the USDA is on the high end at 186.0 million tons. StoneX is estimating the 2026/27 Brazil soybean crop at 183.3 million tons, virtually unchanged from the prior month. Compared to 2025/26, StoneX indicated that production could increase 0.4%.
Mato Grosso - Farmers in the state had planted 10.2% of their soybeans as of last Friday compared to 15.0% last year and 11.2% average. This represents an advance of 6.3% for the week. The most advanced planting is in the western region where 18% of the soybeans have been planted. The slowest region is southeastern Mato Grosso where 4.9% of the soybeans have been planted.
Parana - Farmers in Parana are leading the way with 28% of their soybean planted as of earlier last week, but cold, hail, and excess moisture is impacting the crop according to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral). The crop is 58% germinating, 42% in vegetative development. Despite localized problems, the crop is rated 100% in good condition. The most advanced planting is in western Parana near the cities of Cascavel and Toledo.
