Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

Rain was fairly widespread across Argentina over the weekend, with the heaviest rain favoring far northern Cordoba, northern and central Santa Fe, and northern and western Buenos Aires. A few areas of dryness are still lingering, particularly in central Cordoba and far southern Buenos Aires. Dry weather is expected across most of Argentina this week,

Corn in Argentina was 39.3% planted as of late last week which represents an advance of 2% for the week. In the core area, corn was 75-85% planted with 25-35 planted in southern areas and 0% planted in far northern Argentina. In central and western Buenos Aires, approximately 30% of the corn that has already been planted is being impacted by excess moisture.

The weather thus far has generally been cooperative with the concern now turning to the potential impact from La Nina. December and January is forecasted to be hotter and dryer-than-normal, which could impact pollination of the early planted corn and vegetative development of the later planted corn.
